Luke Honey has been appointed to the new role of Chess and Games Consultant at Bonhams. He will hold two sales a year in Knightsbridge, London – the first to be held on 13 May 2008.
Luke Honey, who holds a BA (Hons) Degree in Medieval & Modern History and is a member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, has worked within the fine arts and auction world since 1991. He began working life as a Porter, firstly for Bonhams and then shortly afterwards for Phillips. In 1993, he progressed to become European Works of Art specialist, specifically taking responsibility for Chess and Games sales - including the Ernst Boehlen Collection - in both London and New York until 2001.
He has since held a number of Chess and Games Consultancy positions for several other auction houses on both sides of the Atlantic, mounted several exhibitions, contributed articles to publications and produced a screenplay.
“At Bonhams, we are committed to providing our customers with the best quality specialised sales we can and by adding Chess and Games to our existing sales portfolio, we’ve added a new dimension to what we can offer our clients,” says Jon Baddeley, Bonhams’ Director of Collectables. “I’m delighted to welcome Luke Honey to the Collectors team. He has a great depth of knowledge and passion on the subject of chess and other traditional board games.”
