Antique clocks and barometers at Dukes Dorchester
Published March 12th, 2008
Longcase clocks and barometers made in Dorset are to be auctioned off by an anonymous collector.
The six clocks and two barometers, some dating from the early 18th century and bought all over the country, will go under the hammer at Duke’s auction house, Dorchester.
Among the antique timepieces is an oak and mahogany longcase clock by Belloni of Shaftesbury, which features an arched dial, a painted view of a country church and floral decorations.
The dial also has a date aperture and seconds wheel and runs for eight days after winding.
Other longcase clocks among the collection were made by Joseph Bowles of Wimborne, Spinney of Stickland, Norman of Poole and Spinney of Blandford.
The auction will begin at 11am on Friday, April 11.
Viewings will take place on Saturday, April 5 from 9.30am to 12noon, on Monday 7 from 9.30am to 5pm, on Tuesday 8 from 9.30am to 7pm and on Wednesday 9 from 9.30am to 5pm.
