Harry Potter Limited Edition Sold at Christie’s

Published March 20th, 2008

A copy of the first ever Harry Potter book has fetched almost £4000 at a Christie’s London auction.

The book, which was in poor condition, was sold for a couple of pounds during the sale at Wellingborough Library, Northamptonshire, in 1999.

A spokeswoman for the county council said: “Someone has certainly got very lucky. The book was sold almost 10 years ago because it was in such poor condition and wasn’t a bestseller.”

The record for a Harry Potter book was set in May 2007, when a pristine copy of the Philosopher’s Stone was sold for £27,370.
