Cumbrian nuclear bunker sold for £182,000

A nuclear bunker in a Cumbrian field has been sold for £182,000 - more than double its guide price.
The former Royal Observer Corps bunker at Bell Mount Farm in Skirsgill near Penrith, was auctioned on Thursday.
At 15ft (4.6m) deep, it was used until the 1990s to monitor radiation levels in the event of nuclear attack.
Bruce Murray, of RF & K auctioneers, said a “mystery” buyer from outside the area had purchased the bunker and a surrounding 18-acre plot of land.
He said: “The seller was delighted with the price that was achieved as it was more than double the £90,000 guide price.
“There was a lot of interest and it was a very lively auction.
“Obviously the main interest was in the land but the bunker was a bonus for the buyer.”
