Shetland Seafood Auctions records another successful year

Published April 16th, 2008

SHETLAND Seafood Auctions has reported another successful year with an increase in landings for 2007, an 18 per cent rise in the value of white fish landed in Shetland (up to £19.5 million) and a 14 per cent increase in tonnage to 12,969 tonnes.

The results are attributed to an increase in the size of the Shetland fleet to 26 vessels, along with landings by 51 Scottish boats, five Scandinavian, one Irish and one English vessel – clearly demonstrating the attractiveness of the islands’ markets for landings.

Commenting on the results, auction manager Martin Leyland, said: “I’m delighted that, once again, we’ve experienced an increase in the value and tonnage of landings. It’s great news that we continue to attract a diverse cross section of boats. www.fishupdate.com
