Bloomsbury Auctions, London is launching its own new specialist Poster department under the highly experienced auspices of Richard Barclay, who created and ran Christie’s Poster department in South Kensington, from its inception in 1982.

‘Our first sale is on 2nd June and I’m extremely pleased with both the quality and quantity of what we are offering,’ said Richard Barclay. ‘The sale consists of 300 lots and the two star items in terms of high worth, include a very rare Toulouse Lautrec poster for the American ink company Ault & Wiborg & Co in exceptional condition which has an estimate of £30,000-35,000 and a beautiful set of The Four Seasons by Alphonse Mucha, a chief exponent of the stylish elegance of the Art Nouveau movement in Paris. We also estimate this at around £30,000,’ explained Barclay. He went on to say, ‘Cuba is very much the flavour of the moment and we have ten bold silk screen film posters of the 1960s. Travel is always popular and Bloomsbury has some fabulous images of trains, cars and aeroplanes. Posters of sport such as tennis, golf and swimming also have an ardent following and again we have a marvellous selection. There is always a huge demand for Roger Brorders’ work and we have some wonderful tennis posters such as Monte Carlo and St Honoré les Bains.’

The first Poster sale at Bloomsbury Auctions in London is on 2nd June and the catalogue will be available from 6th May.
