Daphne Guinness Auction Raises £143,790 for Womankind Worldwide

Daphne Guinness has auctioned a selection of her wardrobe this week and raised £143,790 for charity.

The auction which was predicted to raise between £40,000 and £60,000 exceeded all expectations when over 150, 000 people visited the online auction site, and 1,000 placed bids for a slice of Daphne’s wardrobe on eBay.

The sale, in aid of Womankind Worldwide - a charity that aims to help women in third world countries lift their families out of poverty - was one of the most successful of it kind ever, with a red John Galliano felt hat from the autumn/winter 02 collection selling for over $7,000 - breaking all world records for hats at auction. www.womankind.org.uk
