QXL UK auction site to close

European auction website QXL is closing its UK arm after 10 years It is accepting bids for two more days, until 9 May, before closing completely at midday on 30 May.

The site was started by ex-journalist Tim Jackson in 1997. It bought rival German site Ricardo in 2000 and was worth £1.7bn at the height of the dot-com boom in 2000, but lost out to stronger rival eBay.

The company rebranded as Tradus last year.
