Two Ronnies sketch for Dominic Winter auction
Published May 30th, 2008
A sketch from The Two Ronnies show, entitled ‘The Phantom Raspberry Blower of Old London Town’ is set to go for auction on Thursday 19th June.
Experts at auctioneers Dominic Winter, in South Cerney, believe the original hand-written manuscript could fetch up to £5,000.
Written in black ink by Ronnie Barker, the 56-page script contains all eight episodes with insertions and amendments with best wishes, Ronnie Barker ‘76′ on the inside cover.
It is the only known copy in existence.
Dominic Winter’s autographs specialist Chris Albury said: “This is an exceptionally exciting item. I couldn’t believe what I had when the owner came to see me for a valuation.
“He had bought it in the Bristol charity auction in 1976 for he thinks only a few tens of pounds and it’s been languishing in a drawer for years so he thought he may as well cash it in.
“He was staggered at my valuation even though he had heard about the staggering price of £48,500 achieved for the original Fork Handles sketch last December.
“The Fork Handles sketch undoubtedly enjoys a cult status greater than The Phantom Raspberry Blower, but this is far more substantial and is an incredibly popular and fondly remembered serial.”
The auction will take place on Thursday, June 19.
