Breitling Emergency Watch for Birmingham Auction

Published July 1st, 2008

A 18 carat gold Breitling Emergency SuperQuartz wrist watch will be auctioned at Fellows & Sons in Birmingham on Monday 7 July.

breitling-watch.jpgThe Breitling Emergency watch was originally designed for pilots and aircrews but has also become a cult fashion piece. It is an instrument watch with a built-in microtransmitter broadcasting on the 121.5mHz aircraft emergency frequency.

Following a crash or forced landing, the watch can broadcast a signal for rescuers to home in on. The emergency transmitter is activated by unscrewing a protective cap and by pulling the antenna out fully. It will then broadcast for 48 hours with a range of 90 nautical miles.

Owners of this model face a severe cash penalty for inappropriate use of the emergency signal.

Stephen Whittaker, managing partner at Fellows & Sons, said: “I am expecting a resounding success with this magnificent gold watch. The retail value reflects the exclusivity of this inimitable piece and this second hand item is in excellent condition so represents fantastic value.

“I have no doubt that it will prove to be a very popular item and end up on the wrist of a James Bond enthusiast or even as a collector’s item.”

The watch will be featured in the 7 July auction at Fellows & Sons in Augusta Street, Hockley, which begins at 11am. www.fellows.co.uk
