Charity auction for Oxford cancer centre

A hotel manager is urging people to break the bank in his bid to raise funds for Oxford’s new cancer centre.

Sean Denny, who works at the Randolph Hotel, in Beaumont Street, Oxford, is looking to raise as much as £8,000 at a charity dinner and auction on Friday night.

Forty tickets have already been snapped up, but there are still lots of places available.

Mr Denny said: “It’s been one of the most exciting and hardest events we have put together.

Celebrity auctioneer Charlie Ross, who appears on TV’s The Antiques Roadshow and Flog It!, has agreed to bring down the hammer at the auction, which includes items such as a year’s free car valeting and a trip to Lapland.

Money raised will go towards the £2m fundraising campaign to buy equipment and resources not usually paid for by the NHS, including pressure-relieving mattresses, roof gardens and treatment rooms. Just over half the money has so far been raised. For tickets - priced at £55 - call Sean Denny 01865 256400. www.oxfordmail.net
