Cheltenham Gold Cup Sold at Newmarket Auction

Published July 21st, 2008

An historic Cheltenham Gold Cup trophy has been sold at a Bonhams auction in Newmarket auction for almost £7,000. The pre auction estimate was between £4,000 and £6,000.

The nine-carat cup was won by the Jenny Pitman-trained Burrough Hill Lad – just a year after another of her horses, Corbiere, won the Grand National. Jenny Pitman OBE, rewrote racing history when she became the first woman to train a Cheltenham Gold Cup winner.
