Dorset Longcase Clock Collection for Auction
Published August 16th, 2008
The Charterhouse auction on Friday 12th September features a large private collection of nearly 20 Dorset longcase clocks.
“The collection has been formed over several years and since the client has moved recently he has decided to dispose of his collection.” Commented Richard Bromell. “Having lived in the Bournemouth area for many years, it comes as no surprise that a lot of the clocks relate to Poole, or rather Pool as they are spelt in a rather charming way on the dials!”
The collection includes makers such as Edward Sanders of Pool, Peter Selby of Wareham are predominantly brass dials with a mixture of eight day and thirty hour duration clocks.
Estimates start at just a few hundred pounds up to nearly £2,000 for an eight day longcase clock by Shippard of Poole with the added benefit of having an unusual rocking ship to the arch.
