A marble bust of Koh-I-Noor diamond owner Maharaja Ranjit Singh, sculpted in India around 1900s, is expected to fetch upto £70,000 pounds in a London auction next month.

The sculpture of the legendry Sikh emperor will be auctioned by Bonhams at the Indian and Islamic Art sale on October 9.

“Bonhams is delighted to offer this magnificent sculpture for sale, particularly as last year we sold a bust of Ranjit Singh’s son, Duleep Singh for 1.7 million pounds,” Clare Pennallurick, head of Indian and Islamic Art at Bonhams auction house said.

Ranjit Singh built an empire which stretched almost from the Indian Ocean to the Himalayas. Singh, also called Sher-e-Punjab is revered by Sikhs as the last effective ruler of Punjab.
