Published September 26th, 2008

The brooch was a highlight of Bonhams’ Sale of Fine Jewellery in London on September 25.

elton-john-broach.jpgThe art deco sapphire and diamond clip brooch, made in around 1935, had been expected to auction for between £12,000 and £15,000.

Designed in the form of the letter J, it includes multiple old brilliant-cut and baguette-cut diamonds, five oval-cut sapphires and a bombe cluster of circular-cut sapphires.

A photograph accompanying the brooch showed Sir Elton wearing it during the filming of the video for his 1988 song I Don’t Wanna Go On With You Like That.
