Christie’s have announced that a 1,000-year-old carved rock crystal ewer, fetched 3.2 million pounds at a London auction of Middle Eastern art on Tuesday.

Christie’s said the ewer, was made for the court of the Fatimid rulers of Cairo in the late 10th or early 11th century. The ewer is one of only seven fully carved known surviving examples .

The ewer is the same one that came up for auction at Lawrences Auctioneers earlier this year, when it was catalogued as a 19th century French claret jug and valued at 100-200 pounds.

The ewer was expected to realize in excess of £11 million.
