London Urban Art Auction Oct 23
Published October 11th, 2008
Contemporary artworks by a new wave of emerging artists will be offered in The Urban Art sale at Bonhams flagship salerooms in New Bond Street, London on Thursday 23 October 2008 at 7pm.
The works are fresh, edgy, politically engaging and challenging. The sale follows the success of the world’s first dedicated Urban Art sale, which took place at Bonhams earlier this year.
Artists represented in the sale include: Adam Neate, Aiko, Banksy, Blek le Rat, Dan Baldwin, D*Face, Eelus, Faile, Jose Parla, Keith Haring, Jef Aerosol, Matt Small, Paul Insect, Seen and Shepard Fairey.
The growth of interest in Urban Art has evolved over the past five years at Bonhams, championed by artists such as Banksy. In April 2007, a spray paint on steel titled ‘Space Girl and Bird’ by Banksy, soared twenty times its estimate to fetch £288,000, creating a new auction world record at the time. A bidding war also broke out for an oil and spray paint on canvas titled ‘Self Portrait’ by Banksy. The price rose to five times its estimate to fetch £198,000 after six telephone bidders battled it out.
