Record Numbers at Tennants First Sale of 2009

Published January 8th, 2009

Despite the current problems on the high street Tennants is looking forward to an exciting 2009 if their first sale of the year is anything to go by.

Over 700 lots were offered on Saturday 3 January including over 180 lots of Toys, Models and Comics and realising a grand total of £107,000!

A Lehmann tinplate clockwork cat in its original box from the early 1900s was the highlight of the buoyant toy section realising £1300. Categories with strong prices were model trains, lead soldiers, live steam engines and Diecast vehicles with a Dinky Racing Cars Gift Set making £700.

Household furniture is also proving to be popular amongst a number of first-time buyers looking to furnish their home with affordable good quality items which have been pre-owned and cared for.

With the difficulties with banks and share markets many clients are now investing in antiques, particularly something which is useful and of good quality and hopefully retain its value in years to come.

Record numbers of people viewed the sale and over 200 people were in attendance on the sale day in addition to internet and telephone bidders from the USA, Canada, Dubai and several European countries.
